Francis Laforge


A student at the Conservatoire National de Région of Dijon in piano, chamber music and sonata classes, he obtained a first prize in each of these disciplines the same year, then turned to the double bass, quickly obtained a first prize at the Conservatoire National de Région of Dijon and between the following year, first nominated, at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Paris in Jean-Marc Rollez’ class where he completed his studies and obtained his prize. He had his first opportunity to perform as a soloist, Salle Pleyel with the New Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, where he performed the Dragonetti Concerto under the direction of Stéphane Cardon and successfully passed the National Competition to become a Professor at the Regional Conservatories.

Appointed Professor at the Conservatoire d’Aix-en Provence in 1979, he had the opportunity from the first year to perform with the Orchestre de sa Ville under the direction of Kurt Redel, where he performed the Duo Concertant by Bottesini. Since then, he has performed numerous solo concerts, notably with the Orchestre Régional de Cannes under the direction of Philippe Bender and with various ensembles from the Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille, as well as in Chamber Music, and in Duo Double Bass and Harp with Sylvie Laforge, and regularly with the Orchestras of Nice, Cannes, Toulon, Marseille and the Pays d’Aix.Soloist of the Ensemble Musicatreize, he participates in several contemporary music recordings.
